History Room

The library’s History Room houses a special collection that pertains to the history of the City of Hudson, as well as Columbia County and New York State.  Among the holdings are sets of Hudson City Directories, Hudson High School’s Blue and Gold Year Books, early editions of poetry books by Edna St. Vincent Millay, compilations of St. Nicholas Literary Magazine, historical periodicals, and photographs.

The History Room is currently open Saturdays 10am to noon and  by appointment. Please contact the library for more information.

Most of the books in our History Room are searchable through the Mid-Hudson Library System Online Catalog.  Click here to see a list of what is available.

The Vertical file cabinets in the library’s History Room contain copies of newspaper clippings, some original documents, photographs, local history booklets, pamphlets and other paper documents pertaining to the history of Hudson and the surrounding areas. Click here to see a PDF of the inventory list for the vertical file.

Online Resources

Hudson River Valley Heritage (HRVH) provides access to historical materials from digital collections contributed by colleges, libraries, archives, historical societies, museums and cultural organizations from the various counties in New York State.  You can find images of postcards from our collection as well as Hudson-Fulton Tricentennial materials.
