Support the Library

Why Support the Library?

Doesn’t  Local Government Pay for the Library?

You may think that our library is entirely supported by tax funds. This is not the case.

Over thirty percent of the library’s annual operating budget (this is the money that keeps the doors open, pays for staff and programs, and buys new books and materials) comes from cash donations, big and small. The library needs regular support from its patrons and others interested in its mission.calculate the value of the library to you

And, do not forget that the library depends on dozens of volunteers to perform all sorts of day-to-day functions as well as other work like the Book Sale Room and other fundraising activities. In addition, the Board of Trustees adds additional volunteer work to benefit the library.

The library is a community asset that needs community support.

donate onlineThe Library depends on contributions for more than 50% of its budget. All donations are welcome no matter how small.

  • Send a check made out to the Hudson Area Library.
  • Donate online using your debit or credit card.
  • Do you pay your bills using online banking services? Consider adding the Library to your monthly list. A small $10 or $20 contribution is very meaningful to the Library. This is a fairly painless way of doing something you would like to do automatically.

Volunteers are key to the functioning of the library. They do everything from greeting visitors, to checking books and materials in and out, to providing programs for children and others. If you would like to learn more about being a volunteer, contact the Library Director for more information.

Friends of the Hudson Area Library

The Friends of the Hudson Area Library is a volunteer organization that conducts events and programs to support the library. These include the Book Sale Room that is open the first Saturday of the month. The Book Sale Room has thousands of used books in every genre and all of the proceeds go to support the library. Other Friends’ activities include bake sales, no-bake sales, adventure cruises on the Hudson, and activities around Hudson’s annual ArtsWalk weekend.

The Friends meet the third Wednesday of each month at 6pm in the Founder’s Room at the Library.
